Best of Broadway
There's no form of theatre that captures the heart and the emotions quite like a Broadway Musical. In their Best of Broadway show, the Ditchfields present a completely unique musical experience by condensing two of Broadway's most acclaimed and best-loved shows - "Fiddler On The Roof" & "Oliver".
"Fiddler on the Roof", based on the short story, "Tevye and His Daughters", by Sholom Aleichem, was one of the first musicals to defy Broadway's established rules of commercial success. It dealt with serious issues such as persecution, poverty, and the struggle to hold on to one's faith in the midst of a hostile and chaotic environment. Criticized at first for its "limited appeal", "Fiddler" struck such a universal chord with its audiences that it became the longest running production in the history of Broadway - an astonishing 8 years and 3,242 performances. It has seen 4 revivals and an award-winning movie taking 3 Oscars. In the Best of Broadway Show, the Ditchfields feature songs such as "Tradition", "Matchmaker", "Sunrise, Sunset" and "If I Were a Rich Man" among others.
For the Broadway smash hit "Oliver", we turn to the master storyteller himself, Charles Dickens, and his literary classic, "Oliver Twist". Combined with the music of Lionel Bart, we have a show that ran 2,618 performances in London, and almost 800 performances on Broadway, where it won 3 Tony Awards. The spectacular movie version of 1968 won no less than 5 Oscars, and it has enjoyed several revivals on Broadway since then. "Consider Yourself", "Where Is Love", "I'm Reviewing The Situation" and the classic "Where Is Love" highlight some of the musical selections.
In addition, there are selections from other enduring Broadway favorites including "The Music Man", "Les MisÚrables", "West Side Story", "The Sound Of Music", "The Phantom of the Opera" (see the video sample of the My Three Sons performance of "Music of the Night") and MORE! The show features an incredible variety of musical styles and songs and includes all three generations of the family on stage. Show times can be customized to run from 75 minutes to 2 hours.
